Definition Product safety evaluation includes testing and certification of products that are to be installed in or related to a hazardous (classified area) location. UL can also deliver certifications of rebuilt equipment destined for a hazardous location as well as certify facilities rebuilding motors under the IECEx Scheme. Our hazardous locations certifications determine whether a product meets applicable safety standards and provide certification and Certificates of Conformity for global markets and schemes, including: ATEX IECEx Scheme INMETRO UL Marks for the United States and Canada UL also conducts quality systems audits supporting the issuance of hazardous locations certifications. Quality audits are required to gain an IECEx System Certificate of Conformity or to ship Category 1 or 2 products into the European Union under the ATEX Directive. UL offers a combined IECEx System and ATEX Directive (94/9/EC) quality assessment. INMETRO quality audits are required by Brazil for all electrical and electronic equipment used in explosive atmospheres. UL customers can opt to combine ATEX, IECEx, and INMETRO quality assessments into a single audit.
