Level 1 EMVCo Contactless Mobile Product Type Approval

As contactless payment acceptance grows, and the boundaries of traditional ID-1 format constrains to a particular physical shape, cardholder convenience may benefit from the integration of contactless payments through devices other than cards. Alternative contactless-enabled devices have been developed, such as key fobs and mobile handsets. With extensive knowledge built up after more than 15 years of experience testing contact and contactless devices, UL’s Transaction Security laboratory is positioned as a market leader for test approval of the new generation of contact and contactless cards. Definition EMVCo Contactless Mobile Payment (CMP) Product Type Approval process checks to help ensure compliance with current EMV specifications. Benefits EMVCo established the Contactless Mobile Payment (CMP) Product Type Approval process by creating a mechanism to test compliance with EMV specifications. An EMVCo-compliant CMP product complies with the EMV Contactless Communication Protocol specification Book D and EMV Application Activation User Interface Specification (AAUI). The EMVCo AAUI allows the consumer to make choices as to which of the available contactless applications on their mobile device will be accessible over the antenna interface, and the priority order of these accessible applications. In addition, an AAUI may allow the consumer to specify different access and priority choices, depending on the power state of the device when a contactless transaction is being performed. This Type Approval process provides an increased level of confidence that interoperability and consistent behavior between compliant mobile payment applications are achieved.
