Product Category Rules (PCRs)

Product Category Rules (PCRs) are product-specific calculations and requirements developed for and used in Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for a particular product group. Definition The development of PCRs enables fair evaluation of environmental impacts between similar products. These product-specific methods and calculation procedures provide a harmonized and consistent approach to assessing products’ environmental impacts by creating a globally consistent methodological and analytical framework. UL Environment collaborates with multiple stakeholders, including materials suppliers, manufacturers, trade associations, purchasers, users, nongovernmental organizations, public agencies and certification bodies to develop PCRs. Benefits UL Environment has extensive experience developing PCRs, and a proven history of working with multiple stakeholders. In addition, UL Environment can verify EPDs by using existing PCRs created by other program operators.
