A Recyclability Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) is an opportunity for companies to verify post-consumer, pre-consumer (post-industrial) or total recycled content of a product via a trusted third party. Definition UL Environment’s Recyclability ECV calls for the disassembly and sorting of component parts into the following materials categories: batteries, metals, glass, plastics, mixed electronics and nonrecyclables. A threshold is given of total product parts that must be recyclable to achieve validation. In UL ECVP 2789, recyclability is clearly defined, carefully measured and thoroughly vetted so that recyclability claims are specific and meaningful.
