Bespoke Tie Down Anchor Socket Solution For Beresford Square Market in Woolwich, London
Beresford Square in Woolwich, London, has recently been upgraded as part of a wider £25 million regeneration that also covered Powis Street, the Market Pavilion and the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse.
As part of the scheme, the principal contractor asked Brooks Forgings to design, manufacture and supply tie-down anchor points for a new run of market stalls along the north-western edge of Beresford Square towards Powis Street.
With public safety a priority, the anchors secure stalls against movement in high winds or severe weather. In total, 138 units were produced for the market.
Initially inspired by our anchor sockets supplied to Norwich Market, the contractor opted for a single-piece design. Working together, we developed and refined a bespoke tie-down anchor to meet the project’s exact needs.
The final ground anchor socket measures 100 × 100 mm and incorporates a fixing loop formed from 16 mm square bar. A forged rebar stud, 152 mm long, is welded to the base. The assembly is hot-dip galvanised for durability, with the loop finished in black gloss.
The sockets set easily into fresh concrete, providing a permanent and secure fixing. When not required, the loop folds flat to sit flush with the surface.
All 138 units were manufactured, supplied and installed, with works completed and the square reopened to traders and the public in August 2025.
