Brooks Forgings Harness & Invest in Solar Power Across All Sites

25-06-2024

Brooks Forgings, with operations across two sites in the West Midlands, has recently made a significant investment in solar energy.

As part of our Green and Clean initiative, we recognise the global need for efficient and sustainable energy sources and have explored how they can be seamlessly integrated into our manufacturing processes. Solar power, which offers cost savings and a reduced carbon footprint, was the most logical next step for our business.

We have installed rooftop solar panels at our offices, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities, enabling us to generate electricity and use it as needed. This not only helps to reduce costs but also ensures the continuity of critical component production in the event of disruptions to conventional energy supplies.

At our Doulton Road site, we have installed 150 panels, generating a peak output of 60,000 watts.

At our Balds Lane site, 450 panels have been installed, generating a peak output of 175,000 watts.

We have also installed on-site vehicle chargers powered by solar energy. These chargers are used not only for company and visitor vehicles but also for battery-powered forklifts within our facilities.

If the solar energy system produces more power than the site requires—typically over weekends—the surplus electricity is exported and sold back to the grid.
