Guidelines on how you should maintain your metal lockers

15-10-2014

Helmsman lockers have been designed to give maximum effective life with the minimum of maintenance. However, in order to preserve both the fabric of the locker and the lock itself, the following guidelines should be followed: 1. GENERAL CARE OF THE LOCKER MONTHLY: Painted finishes should be wiped down inside and out with a damp cloth using only mains water to dampen the cloth. QUARTERLY: Wipe down the inside and outside surfaces with a wax based domestic polish. If necessary, use a domestic air freshener aerosol to freshen up the inside of the locker. GENERAL: Never use equipment which has been used to clean floors etc to be used to clean lockers; this refers especially to scourers, scouring powders or chemical cleaners and their utensils. 2. GENERAL CARE OF THE LOCK AND HINGES Locks and hinges should be given a light application of a suitable lubricating oil; the period at which lubrication is required varies according to ambient conditions and frequency of use of the locker. We recommend quarterly intervals which can then be varied as experience permits. 3. MAINTENANCE OF LOCKERS Periodically inspect lockers for scratches. These should immediately be rectified as rusting will occur once the base metal has been subjected to damp or humid conditions. Sand smooth any affected areas and touch-up with paint available from the Service Department. 4. REPLACEMENT LOCKS AND KEYS: Should keys be mislaid or lost for any reason, simply record the five figure number stamped on the outside of the lock and advise our Service Department of your requirements for keys or complete locks (master keys are available). These instructions are intended to enable you to get maximum effective service life from your lockers. Should you require any further advice or assistance, please contact the Service Department on 01284 727633 / Fax No: 01284 727603.
